Have you ever had a lazy day, where you felt sluggish and not really up for a long workout? Did you drag yourself up and out, trying to get through a long run or some other workout? Or maybe you have skipped a workout because you felt like you just didn’t have enough time for it. Most of us have been there (if you haven’t, please tell us your secret!), and that’s why we are excited about this latest piece of news.

The generally accepted truth when it comes to fitness (and in life) is that the more time you put into something, the more benefits you get out of it. Therefore, going for a three hour run will be more beneficial for your overall health and fitness than going for a 30 minute run, right?

Well, not necessarily, according to latest research by McGill University. Contrary to popular belief, this latest study suggests that short, high-intensity workouts can actually deliver just as much results as longer runs – and with less risk of injuries associated with long term sports activity. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) combines short bursts of high-intensity activity such as sprints, squats, and other quick whole body movements, with quick rest periods for recovery – a method that research suggests can provide comparable results to longer periods of endurance training. This means that you can achieve similar results in shorter period of time – and who doesn’t appreciate getting more for less?
